Miscellaneous Verses

In the morning or the evening
Or just any time you like,
You can get a lot of pleasure
Puffing on your old cob pipe.

Father

I wish I was as good a boy
As Father used to be,
When he was young and sprucing round
He never got on a spree,
He used to go to see his love
As soon as it was night
And if her Dad would stand for it
He'd stay till broad daylight;
But that was then, and this is now
The times are changing so,
As soon as it is ten o'clock
I take my hat and go.

Untitled

My hens have all gone on a strike
I tell them, do it if you like,
For I can bake a cake so fine
Without one measly egg of thine.

Untitled

The price of coal has gone some lower
And so I understand has flour
Perhaps ere long I will bake a pie
And eat it up and nearly die.

Incognito

If I ever should dare
To achieve unto fame,
Let the critics remember
They don't know my name.
And let them remember
I've no money, no wealth,
All the writing I do
Is done for my health.
